The
only privately owned island in Sri Lanka, Taprobane was built in
the 1920's by the eccentric English Count de Mauny as his dream
home. It was subsequently owned and visited by various artists and
celebrities including Robin Maugham, Paul Bowles , Arthur C. Clarke,
Peggy Guggenheim.
Its
Palladio - style house is on the highest point of the 2 acre island
with sweeping views of the bay and fishing village…nothing lies
between it and the South Pole.
the
house is planned around a central hexagonal hall and surrounded
by large verandahs and terraces, it is a fantasy experience in outdoor
living; perfect for honeymooners,families and anyone wanting to
experience island life.
There is a staff of 6 to look after the property and guests. There
are 4 bedrooms + 4 bathrooms and ample verandahs.
